President of Molynes United football club, Herman Cruickshank, says the team's poor return in their two seasons in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) has led to the need for drastic changes.

Molynes finished 10th in their two seasons in the competition. However, with demotion not due for another season, Cruickshank said they have taken the opportunity to overhaul the squad in an attempt to foster a more competitive team.

"Most of the senior people who we had for three years are out. So we have changed the team. We have abandoned that team because it was getting old and for the two years we have been battling in the lower half of the league," he said.

He declared that in their rebuilding they have recruited experienced players between the ages of 22 and 28 and the club has retained eight players, none older than 24, including their top scorer from last season, Nicholas Nelson (five goals), who will lead the charge.

"We have kept most of the young players who finished last season. We want to build something strong because no relegation is taking place this season.

"We have to try and make the team competitive because we really haven't been competitive in the Premier League.

"We will finalise some transfers this week and then we will know exactly how we are. But the focus now is to get the team to compete.

"Our target is to move out of the bottom half of the table because for two years we have occupied the bottom half and we want to change that," he continued.

He added it is now up to coach Anthony Patrick to build a team that can challenge for a place in the top half of the league.

"We have switched coaches rapidly. We are always changing coaches and not changing the players and we have decided this trip to get rid of some players and see what happens.

"It is a new team, a young team and we have Patrick for the purpose of building that team and we believe he really has the skills to do it," he said.
