Nicholson eyeing EPL move?
Kevin Cowan, the agent of Jamaican international and Charleroi SC's Shamar Nicholson, says the forward is one of the best in the Belgian League but would not confirm or deny recent reports that the player is now contemplating a move to the English Premier League (EPL).
According to reports in Belgium, Nicholson, who is having his best season in his three years in the Jupiler League, has been the most productive player in attack for Charleroi and his form has only increased speculation of a possible transfer in the January window with Arsenal being mentioned as his 'dream' destination.
However, when contacted, Cowan said he was unable to provide any information of the development stating that such a disclosure would be unwise as it would be a breach of confidentiality.
Nevertheless, he pointed out that all players in Belgium want to play at the highest level.
"Every top Jamaican player that plays in Belgium, that is their ambition.
"Shamar has 10 goals (this season) and he is one of the best players in the Jupiler League. So it is normal that a player with 10 goals before January is getting interest from clubs all over," he said.
The reports in Belgium state that the 24-year-old's ambitions to play outside of that country is the main reason why a transfer is likely to happen.
It is still not clear who could make a bid for him in the near future. However, it is understood that Charleroi are already seeking a replacement for the big Jamaican striker.
It was also reported last week that scouts from Everton, Southampton and Rangers all watched Charleroi's match against Anderlecht on November 27.
Because of his desire to move to England, it would not be a surprise to see Premier League clubs making bids for him.
In Nicholson's first season in Belgium in 2019-20, he played 31 matches in all competitions netting 10 goals and providing two assists.
Last season, 2020-21, he scored 10 goals and had four assists while playing 37 matches in all competitions.
While, in only 15 league matches this term, the former Boys' Town striker has bagged 10 goals and three assists, surpassing his best tally for a season with half the campaign to go.
Nicholson's goals, including two against Standard Liege on Sunday, have lifted Charleroi to fourth place in the current Belgian Pro League standings.
