All games in the nation's Premier, Super and Major leagues have been postponed following the latest development regarding the coronavirus in Jamaica.

Yesterday's re-scheduled Red Stripe Premier League game between host Humble Lion and Portmore United did not take place and all six fixtures in game week 30, which were scheduled for this weekend have also been suspended.

Following an emergency meeting, vice-chairman of the Premier League Clubs Association, Carvel Stewart says all the clubs, as well as the league administrators and the Jamaica Football Federation were in agreement to suspend the competition as the nation grapples with the Covid-19 virus.

"If you notice we did not say we will be suspending the league until further notice because we believe we should operate based on how the situation develops, so we will be meeting again early next week. We will be keeping the Government and all stakeholders and viewing public informed as we actively pursue the continuation of the league," said Stewart.

With four rounds of games to be completed before the play-offs, Stewart is optimistic that the situation will improve and football will once again take centre stage.

Final stages

In the meantime, president of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association, Wayne Shaw, says his organisation will be meeting within the next 10 days to decide if the Super and Major leagues should resume or be cancelled altogether.

Both leagues are in the final stages of their competitions with just a few fixtures to be completed before the semi-final stage.

Shaw says he and his council will be perusing their options including looking at the scenario of staging games without spectators.

Meanwhile, The KSAFA is encouraging each individual to continue to follow the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health & Wellness and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves, families and football fraternity.
