A 21-year-old man has been charged for the murder of a farmer following a dispute over a pair of stolen shoes in Fyffes Pen, St Elizabeth, last month.

Charged is Adaine Foster, a labourer of Fyffes Pen district, St Elizabeth, and Denham Town, Kingston 14. He is charged with murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Luke Hewitt, a farmer of Fyffes Pen district, St Elizabeth, and Toll Gate district, Clarendon.

Reports from the Black River police are that about 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, Foster and Hewitt got into an argument over a pair of shoes that Foster was accused of stealing. During the confrontation, Foster reportedly threatened to kill Hewitt and his family before pulling a knife from his waistband.

A relative of Hewitt, who witnessed the incident, used pepper spray on Foster, who then ran from the scene.

Later that day, Foster allegedly returned and entered Hewitt's home, where he pointed a gun at him and fired a shot, hitting him in the upper body. He then fled the scene on foot.

Police were alerted, and an investigation was launched. Foster was later apprehended by the Kingston Western Police on Monday, October 20, and transported to the Black River Police Station, where he was formally charged on Wednesday, October 22.

His court date is being finalised.
