Twenty-three-year-old Nichugh Thomas, a labourer of Middleton district, St Thomas, has been charged with murder following an incident in his community on September 1.

The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Ajajah Bryan, a mechanic, also of Middleton district. Reports from the Morant Bay police are that at 8 a.m., Thomas visited Bryan's house where they engaged in a brief conversation. While they spoke, Thomas took a knife from his waistband and inflicted a stab wound to Bryan's chest. He ran, but was chased and stabbed several times before his attacker escaped in the area. The police were summoned and on their arrival, Bryan was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched into the matter and Thomas was taken into custody during an operation a day later. He was charged on Wednesday after he was pointed out in an ID parade, and he participated in an interview in the presence of his attorney. His court date is being finalised.
