In an effort to celebrate and empower black women, US-based fusion artiste Deportee has released his single, ' Black Women Are Not Cheap (BWANC)'.

The single is an ode to black women and their contributions. It also is a message to black people in general, as the lyrics clarify that the song is a "message to the black nation". He said that the inspiration for BWANC came from the video for a song. In a particular scene, a man grabs a woman's behind but you never see her face.

"I felt that made her look cheap. Watching [the] video, I felt a protest well up inside me and the refrain 'black women are not cheap' came to me," he said.

Through its evocative lyrics and strong delivery, the song encapsulates the strength, resilience, and beauty of black women, prompting listeners to reflect on the significant contributions these women continue to make to society. Already garnering more than 500,000 collective YouTube plays, the single continues to make an impact. The official video takes place in Los Angeles on the popular Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was brought to life by noteworthy videographer Monsee.

Deportee said that he is pleased with the overall direction his career has taken since he entered the Caribbean music space.

"I am happy to say that I have one Jamaican street party hit with the track 2 Pretty, which I released before this one, so my career has truly come a long way. 2 Pretty has been doing so well that it led the Source magazine in the United States to write about it, and this paved the way for BWANC to become as big as it is," he said.
