What should have been a clean start to a must-see clash between St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Kemps Hill High in the ISSA daCosta Cup's round of 16 disintegrated into a debacle with hostile exchanges at STETHS yesterday.

At the end of the match, STETHS remained unbeaten after a compelling 4-0 win, while Kemps Hill had two players red-carded.

While STETHS were deserved winners, Kemps Hill High have themselves to blame for not keeping their composure.

Kemps Hill High's game plan and frustrations begun to unravel at the 43rd minute when Omario Chambers received marching orders. The sending off was initiated by a penalty, after Chambers brought down Kaieem Lewis in the box.

Lewis broke the deadlock by converting in the 42nd minute.

The penalty decision did not sit well with Chambers and after it was scored, he got into a spat with the referee, and was sent to the showers to cool off for what the officials later said was "foul and abusive language", in the 43rd minute.

STETHS' R-Jay Newman doubled the score in the 48th minute.

They added a third at the 59th minute, when Lewis beautifully controlled the ball and did a 180-degree spin, then powered home another goal.

Tempers flared again when Kemps Hill's Shemar Daley dribbled the ball into the box and went down under a tackle. He and his team expected a penalty, which never came.

Amid the protests, a second Kemps Hill player, Ricardo Dean, was shown the red card. Then followed a lengthy delay as Kemps Hill left the field.

The Kemps Hill team then agreed to resume the match by going back onto the playing field, without their goalkeeper.

However, the resumption proved otherwise with all the players standing in solidarity near the centre circle after the whistle had sounded for play to restart.

None of them made any move to challenge for the ball and STETHS were able to walk the ball into an empty net for their fourth goal through Wayne Brown in the 88th minute.

The referee then placed the ball in the centre of the pitch for the restart.

Kemps Hill players then kicked off the ball, and the referee blew off the game.

Head coach of STETHS, Omar 'Rambo' Wedderburn, said the team achieved their objective of winning.

"The objective was to get all three points ... to get a positive result," Wedderburn said.

"We don't care about what the opponent wants to do. We just have to stick to our task and make sure we get the job done," Wedderburn added.

Meanwhile, when STAR Sports approached Kiegon Mitchell, head coach of Kemps Hill, he was hauled away by some members of the coaching staff and was told not to comment.

One person shouted to STAR Sports, "Go and talk to the referee and ask him for a comment because it is his game. We have nothing to say."

This triggered a war of words.

"Them must ban unnu from the league. Unnu didn't come to play, unnu come to war,"a patron shouted at the Kemps Hill team.

A Kemps Hill faithful retorted: "That is why STETHS nah reach further because unnu too bias."

STETHS lead the group by virtue of goal difference ahead of Ocho Rios High, which also have three points, after a 1-0 victory over Old Harbour High.
