Waterhouse enjoying JPL summit
Waterhouse registered their third straight win in the Jamaica Premier league (JPL) despatching Dunbeholden 4-1 at the UWI-JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence in St Andrew yesterday.
Leslie, who netted his first goals of the season yesterday, said he worked hard in preseason to improve his conditioning and is happy to get off the mark.
"I am grateful for the goals and the three points for my team," Leslie told STAR Sports. "I did a lot of hard work through the week and I was able to carry it out on the field.
"I now have two goals for the season and I am thankful. The ambition for the rest of the season is to get more goals game by game. The target is 10 to 15 goals this season."
But despite Waterhouse's start, Leslie says they will have to keep working hard if that want to stay in pole position.
"The start of the season has been good, but we will have to keep on working hard and put out the effort on match days," he said.
Waterhouse went ahead in the 24th minute when Andre Fletcher slipped an inch perfect pass to Leslie, who fired inside Damion Hyatt's near post.
Five minutes after the interval, Leslie intercepted a poor defensive pass and smartly fired a first time shot out of the reach of Hyatt for the second goal.
Dwayne Smith cut the deficit when he redirected a corner inside the near post.
However, Dunbeholden lost Shaquille Dyer to a second yellow card in the 80th minute.
Then, with five minutes to go Cardel Benbow broke away to score, and substitute Devroy Grey sealed the win after being set up by Benbow in added time.
Waterhouse move three points clear at the top of the league with maximum nine points by virtue of the result.
Dunbeholden stay joint second on six points with Mount Pleasant, who play Vere tomorrow.
Dunbeholden coach Harold Thomas said although the loss of striker Atapharoy Bygrave midway the first half through injury, and Dyer to red card had a major impact on the game, they were not at their best.
"It was a disappointing game for us," Thomas said. "We played in some areas but did not play in some. The issue is not football, we had the greater possession and were able to turn one into a goal.
"But we gave up two easy ones and got a red card and all these things came back and haunt us, and we have to correct them."
The other game on the day saw Portmore United defeating defending champions Cavalier through a goal by Demar Rose.
Portmore got the breakthrough when Rose capitalised on poor defending from the Cavalier defence and fired past goalkeeper Vino Barclett at the back post.
In today's games Montego Bay United play Molynes United at the same venue at 1 p.m., and Arnett Gardens take on Humble Lion at 3:15 p.m.
