Olympic gymnast Danusia Francis is preparing to get married after postponing the wedding last year because of the Tokyo Games.

Francis will wed Elliott Reid, a Jamaica man living in the United Kingston, in June, after three years of dating.

Francis, who is now on vacation with Reid in Jamaica, says she is not experiencing any "cold feet," but rather living in the moment. She says her connection with Reid was an instant mental one which strengthened over time.

"We met on Instagram, the modern way," Francis shared with STAR Sports. "We have been together for three years and I am really ready to get married now.

"The horror stories I have heard about marriages haven't really intimidated me. We are in love and we are happy and you just got to live life as it comes to you, but, hopefully, we are not one of those horror stories.

"I am hoping this will be my happily ever after, and I will be hoping to renew my vows here in the next 10 years or so."

Francis, 27, says she has no immediate plans to start a family, however, when she does, she says it will be important to them that their children know Jamaican culture and history.

"I will be looking to start a family maybe in my 30s," she said. "Our child will be Jamaican, so look out for another Jamaican gymnast or in another sport in the future.

"My fiance is really into black history and we want our children to be brought up with that culture.

"I didn't know my dad growing up, and I didn't get into that culture until I was representing Jamaica, so it is really important to both of us to ensure that our children know where they are from."

Reid, who owns a health and fitness clinic, assists Francis with her rehabilitation from the knee injury which cut her Olympics debut short in July.

Francis believes that if anyone can get her back to full fitness, it's her partner.

"He has a great team, even though I work with a different physiotherapist at his clinic," she said. "She is amazing and she really pushes me, and she says I am a few weeks ahead of schedule."
