Connie believes Girls can finish in top three Connie believes Girls can finish in top three
Former national senior team coach Connie Francis said the Sunshine Girls must take a discipline but confident approach to next month's Netball World Cup tournament, which will be held in Liverpool, England.
The championships which kicks off on July 12, will see the Sunshine Girls going up against Fiji in their opening match.
The Jamaicans will be aiming to secure their first medal at the championships in eight years, having finished fourth twice in 2011 and 2015. In fact, Francis was the coach to guide Sunshine Girls to the bronze medal in 2007, which was held in Auckland, New Zealand.
The veteran coach told STAR Sports that the Sunshine Girls unit is very talented, but they will have to execute on all fronts in order to become successful at the tournament.
"For me, I think that any of the top teams can win a medal, and I know that our team is very hungry and we just have to approach it that way," said Francis.
"We have to be extra hungry and just go out there and shoot well, defend well, because it all comes down to the team that execute well on the day," she said.
"It is very talented squad, but it is just to find the right chemistry for each of the games and once we do this, then I know that we will be on the podium," Francis said.
She also underlines that the Sunshine Girls must also pay careful attention to their team selection during the tournament.
"We just have to apply ourselves each game because each team that we play, we have to play a different style, and we just have to figure out what they are doing early and just counteract it," Francis said.
"I think we have to ensure that we work hard in each game that we play, and because it is going to require all the girls to put out a one hundred and ten percent effort in executing well in order to win this championships," she said.
